Surface Water-Groundwater Interactions
Recognizing the linkage of groundwater to surface water systems has become a critical component of regulating the use and quality of surface water and groundwater resources both in precipitation-rich and precipitation-poor areas of the country.
Complex Groundwater River Exchange (after Woessner 2000)
My work has included:
- characterizing where and how the exchange process occurs in large gravel-bedded streams.
- documenting how groundwater and surface water interactions influence water availability, ecological conditions and fisheries.
- examining how linkages impact water rights and water use.
- Quantifying the impacts of dam removal actions on the exchange process.
